Fess Simmons, Jr., son of the late Thessalonia (Fess) Simmons, Sr. and Queen Esther Sauls Simmons, was born on June 29, 1952 in Wayne County, North Carolina. He entered into eternal peace on November 24, 2016 in Fayetteville, Georgia.

Graduating from Eastern Wayne High School in Goldsboro, North Carolina in 1970, Fess served honorably with the United States Air Force shortly thereafter. He attended North Carolina Central University and graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts. Fess worked for the United States Postal Service for 20 years until retirement in 2008. Then, his career took a new turn. He co-founded and was President of PowerBlue Technologies, Inc. in addition to working for the Fulton County Board of Elections.

Fess had an adventurous spirit when it came to traveling, from his journey to the safari of South Africa, the historical sites of Spain, the grandeau of the Grand Canyon, the awe inspiring beauty of the mountains to the serenity of the oceans, he embraced life. His hobbies also included photography, (he loved to pose as the "great thinker"), Fine Arts, painting, gardening, hiking, birdwatching, astronomy, reading and enjoying good food. Never meeting a stranger, he had a kind, gentle soul, and as a great listener, he strived to see the positive in any situation. Dashing and debonair, Fess was a man with impeccable taste. During his recent illness, his faith in God never wavered, for he knew during his weakest moments, he was even stronger in the Lord.

A loving and devoted husband and father, Fess was a true pillar of strength to his family, siblings and community. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Brenda Simmons of Fayetteville, GA; two daughters, Stephanie Fields of Norfolk, VA and Crystal Jones of Atlanta, GA, eight siblings, Carolyn (Douglas) Core of Goldsboro, NC; Bessie (Anthony) Holmes of Greensboro, NC; David (Christine) Simmons of Goldsboro, NC; Herman (Vicki) Simmons of Goldsboro, NC; Nathan Simmons of Atlanta, Georgia; Pamela (Darryl) Braswell of Durham, NC; Gerald (Samantha) Simmons of Goldsboro, NC and Corey (Kenesha) Simmons of Goldsboro, NC ; two grandchildren, Khadija Fields and Jonathan Powell, Jr. of Norfolk, VA; a special cousin, Bobby Lewis of Goldsboro, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and dear friends.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday December 3, 2016 11:00am at Tara Garden Chapel Funeral Home, Jonesboro, Georgia.
